Definition of FACETING
The cutting and polishing of the surface of a gemstone into a distinctive, and specifically proportioned, pattern of flat panels, or “ facets”. This is done with the intention of increasing the stone’s reflection of light and its brilliance.
In this class, students will learn the basics of cutting facets into rough gemstones, equipment safety, and cleaning up. Students will also learn how to read faceting diagrams and become familiar with all faceting equipment. All material needed for class is supplied by MGMS and included in class fee.
All students must complete our Lapidary class prior to taking Faceting.
